October in Medellín: music, food and a city with plans for every rhythm

There are months when Medellín seems to have a plan for every type of traveler. October is one of them.

The city has already welcomed major electronic music events and still has several weeks of food, festivals and fairs ahead. That makes it a great time to visit Medellín even if the trip is not built around one single event.

One of the month’s main highlights is Medellín Gourmet, which continues through November 2. The festival brings together restaurants from different styles with special menus and becomes an easy way to discover the city through food.

For travelers, that creates simple but complete plans: choose a restaurant, walk around the neighborhood, have a drink afterward and make the meal the center of the afternoon or evening.

In Manila, for example, restaurants, cafés and hotels are close to each other, making it easy to enjoy the area without relying on long transfers. It is also a chance to discover places such as Munayki Sloh and experience a more gastronomic side of the neighborhood.

Music also continues to play an important role. At the end of the month, Ritvales 2026 takes place on October 31 and November 1 at Parque Norte. Medellín’s official guide presents it as Colombia’s largest open-air electronic music festival, with house, techno and progressive sounds.

But October is not only about music and food. From October 29 to 31, Colombia Travel Expo 2026 will also take place at Plaza Mayor, bringing together destinations, tourism companies and travel proposals from Colombia and abroad.

That variety says something important about Medellín: the city can be experienced through many different interests. One traveler may come for a festival, another for food, another for work and another for a fair, and all of them meet in the same city.

That is why a good way to travel to Medellín in October is not to try to do too much. The calendar may be busy, but the best days usually mix one major plan with one simple one. An evening event, for example, can be combined with a long breakfast, a short walk, a relaxed lunch or coffee. Medellín works especially well when there is space between activities.

It is also worth exploring different neighborhoods. Manila and El Poblado can serve as good bases for travelers who want restaurants, cafés and city life nearby. Ciudad del Río works well for combining culture, open spaces and food. Other areas offer different rhythms and help visitors see Medellín beyond its most familiar attractions.

Weather is another reason to keep the itinerary flexible. Medellín can experience changes throughout the day, so a light jacket or compact umbrella can still be useful. The city’s official guide recommends being prepared for changing weather while exploring.

For travelers coming for only a few days, October makes it easy to build a varied trip without moving too far. Music, food, design, culture and neighborhood life can all fit into the same visit. And for people already in Medellín, the month can also be an invitation to see the city like a traveler: try a new restaurant, attend a festival, enter a fair, walk through a different area or simply spend an afternoon discovering somewhere new.

October shows that Medellín does not need one single major event to feel alive. Its strength is in the mix: a city where one night can end at a festival and the next morning can begin with coffee, food, neighborhood life and rest.
